Dr. Heflin, a cherished member of the Port Charlotte and Englewood communities, has deep roots in the area where he was born and raised. An alumnus of Port Charlotte High School, his journey into healthcare began in his hometown and continued to flourish as he pursued higher education.
His academic endeavor led him to the University of South Florida, where he delved into the complexities of life sciences, earning his B.S. in Biology. As his passion for medicine grew, he journeyed further into the field, attending the esteemed Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. There, he achieved his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree, equipping him with a holistic perspective towards patient care.
Dr. Heflin honed his skills and broadened his expertise during his Family Medicine residency at St. Petersburg General Hospital. His dedication to medical practice and devotion to community wellness were evident during this pivotal period in his career.
After years of education and training, Dr. Heflin made a heartfelt decision to return to his roots in Englewood. Committed to his community, he offers high-quality, individualized healthcare, bridging his professional knowledge with his innate understanding of his hometown's unique health needs.
Beyond the sphere of medicine, Dr. Heflin cherishes his time spent with family. He and his wife are proud parents to two young children, who fill their lives with joy and constant inspiration. Ashley’s journey in healthcare began with a solid foundation as a Registered Nurse, where she gained extensive experience working in high-pressure environments such as the emergency department. Her ability to remain calm and efficient during critical situations has honed her skills and deepened her commitment to providing exceptional patient care.
Ashley's academic achievements are as impressive as her professional experience. She earned her Associate’s Degree in Nursing from the State College of Florida, where she developed a strong clinical foundation and a passion for patient advocacy. Pursuing higher education, she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of South Tampa. This program expanded her clinical skills and theoretical knowledge, preparing her for advanced practice roles.
Driven by a desire to make a more significant impact in healthcare, Ashley furthered her education by earning a Master’s Degree in Nursing from Chamberlain University. Here, she specialized in family and emergency nursing, equipping her with the expertise to handle a broad range of health conditions and patient needs.
Ashley is an active member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, staying engaged with the latest advancements in medical research and practice guidelines. Sophia Nieto, MSN, APRN, FNP-C

Sophia Nieto is a board-certified family nurse practitioner with over 13 years of healthcare experience and deep roots in the Sarasota area. A proud first-generation college graduate and Riverview High School alum, Sophia is passionate about giving back to the community that shaped her—now as both a provider and a first-time mom raising a family of her own.
Sophia began her healthcare journey in primary care as an LPN and continued her education by earning an Associate’s Degree from St. Petersburg College, followed by her BSN and MSN from the University of South Florida. Her clinical background includes years of cardiovascular nursing and serving as a travel nurse during the COVID-19 pandemic, where she provided critical care in high-pressure settings across the country.
Known for her compassionate, patient-centered approach, Sophia believes in holistic care that empowers patients to live their healthiest lives. As a Latina and fluent Spanish speaker, she’s committed to advocating for underserved communities and ensuring every patient feels seen, heard, and supported.
Outside the clinic, Sophia enjoys spending time with her family, exploring wellness and fitness, and supporting her significant other ringside—he’s a professional boxer.
